2010 All-American Dairy Show Judges Announced
The 2010 All-American Dairy Show will welcome nine judges to place classes in 14 youth and open shows Sept. 18-23 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg. The judges:
Curtis Day of Burnsville, Minn., will judge the Premier National Junior Ayrshire and Red & White shows on Monday, Sept. 20, and the All-American Brown Swiss show on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 21-22. He has officiated at the district, state and national levels and has served on the All-American panels for the Holstein and Brown Swiss breeds, the National Dairy Forum, and the National Youth Committee for Holstein juniors. Day and his family owned and developed Tri-Day Holsteins in Shippensburg, Pa., breeding several All-Americans and champions including the successful members of the Bendy-Brook Odyssey Favorite family.
Gary Estes of Rogersville, Mo., will place the All-American Guernsey Show on Wednesday, Sept. 22. Raised on a Registered Guernsey farm, he began his career as an agriculture science teacher before becoming an auctioneer and operating a dairy sale business for the past 25 years. He has auctioned cattle at many national sales of all breeds and has judged several state and national shows, as well as international shows in South America and Mexico. The Estes family has shown and bred several All-American and Excellent Guernseys.
Dr. Doug Evans of Georgetown, N.Y., is slated to judge the Premier National Junior Jersey Show on Monday, Sept. 20, and the All-American Milking Shorthorn show on Sept. 21-22. He and his wife Kathe and their children Andrew, Laura, Gregory and Rachel operate Sunny Acres, LLC, the world-renown Ayrshire farm, where they milk 50 cows and farm 245 acres. Evans is a bovine veterinarian and owns Georgetown Veterinary Practice. The Evans family has exhibited Ayrshire cattle at the All-American for 26 years, earning Grand Champion honors seven times and multiple Premier Breeder and Exhibitor awards. Evans judged at all the major national shows in addition to several international shows and serves as an official judge for the Hoard’s Dairyman contest.
Ron Heffner of Middletown, Md., will pull double duty judging the National Premier Junior Holstein Show on Monday, Sept. 20, and the All-American Red & White Show on Wednesday, Sept. 22. He and his wife Emily operate Heff-Haven Holsteins, and house and care for investor-owned top pedigree show cattle. Most notably, the Heffners have housed and helped develop two pairs of sisters – Tri-Day Adeen and Tri-Day Ashlyn, and Shoremar S Alicia and Ms Kingstead Chief Adeen. Heffner has judged many state and national shows in the U.S. and Canada. He has exhibited at the All-American Dairy Show for more than 30 years.
Jacob Hushon of Ft. Atkinson, Wis., will judge the Premier National Junior Guernsey and Milking Shorthorn shows on Monday, Sept. 20. He is the marketing manager for New Generation Genetics and co-owner of Brothers Three Brown Swiss with his brothers Joshua and Joseph. They have bred, owned and developed eight All-American, five Reserve All-American and one Honorable Mention All-American winners with 24 nominations, earning 14 national Bellringer and 25 state Bellringer awards. Brothers Three won the 2009 Kingsmill II International Supreme Futurity at World Dairy Expo, the first for a Brown Swiss, and were awarded the Young Breeder Award at the 2009 National Brown Swiss Convention. He has judged shows in seven states, the All-American Showmanship Contest and internationally in Colombia.
Sean Johnson of Glenville, Pa., returns to the All-American for the third time to judge the All-American Ayrshire Show on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 21-22. Johnson, a self-employed cattle hoof trimmer, began his dairy career in Maryland working at Maple Dell Farm, followed by working with show cattle with Brad Garst. As a member of the University of Maryland judging team, Johnson was the high individual at the NAILE collegiate contest. His other judging credits include the Eastern National Red & White Show, Maryland Spring Holstein Show, New York Spring Carousel Show, associate judge for the 2007 New York Spring Show and the All-American Holstein Show, and several other local shows.
Adam Liddle of Argyle, N.Y., is set to judge the All-American Holstein show on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 22-23. He owns and operates Liddleholm Holsteins with his wife Nicole and their three children Anthony, Brock and Hailee. The Liddles milk 60 Holsteins with a BAA of 110.6% and rolling herd average of more than 22,000 pounds of milk, earning numerous All-New York and Junior All-New York Awards. Liddle serves a director for the Tri-County Holstein Club and has judged many county, regional and state shows, including shows in South Carolina, Vermont and Georgia. He also judged the Southern National Parade of Stars at the Maine and Utah state fairs and was the associate judge for the 2008 International Holstein Show at World Dairy Expo.
Ryan Lancaster of Ferndale, Wash., is tapped to judge the All American Jersey Show at Harrisburg on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 22-23. He and his wife Freynie operate Family Hill Jerseys with their children Logan and Tatum. The Lancasters milk 90 cows with 62 Excellents and 28 Very Goods. They exhibit cattle at the Western National, World Dairy Expo and the All-American. Lancaster has judged the Utah State Show, Idaho, Maryland and Kentucky state fairs and was the associate judge of the All American Junior Jersey Show.
Eric Topp of Botkins, Ohio, will place the Premier National Junior Brown Swiss show on Monday, Sept. 20. Along with his mother and two brothers, he milks 60 cows at Top-View Brown Swiss and Holsteins. They have exhibited champions at World Dairy Expo, North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville, and the Ohio State Fair. Topp has judged the Southern National Show in Georgia and at the Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota and Wisconsin state fairs. He works as a nutritionist for Maria Stein Gran, and he and his wife Mary have a seven-year-old daughter, Madelyn.
