I have a website started but really right now I do not have the time. We have until the 19th to get all of the greenhouse stuff moved from Oneonta to home, an 84 mile round trip. I am trying to get all the items needed for reconstruction plus the holiday season is upon us and Grandma is making quilts for the grandbabies.
I got my Harris Seed Professional catalog today. There is a beautiful dark red onion I have to have next year. The catalog did not say if it was a long short or medium day onion so I called Harris. It is a long day onion so it is now on my list. I hope Dixondale will be offering it.

LOL - yeah, you're a little busy. Let me know if you ever want help with it. I'm not the best at HTML, but I can do some. As long as you use a PC and not a Mac, I can help. If it's Mac driven, I can't convert to the proper file types.

You quilt! Very cool. So do I. Started about 8 years ago when I first became disabled. I scrap quilt, unless someone wants brand new fabric.

Since my mother's surgery has been delayed 2 days, I offered to help my bro and his wife cover their high tunnel tomorrow. I've not heard back, so I'm guessing it's a "no". Too bad too - it's the best day for it.

Do you have a trailer you can use/borrow to help move stuff in fewer trips? Here's hoping. Take pictures! LOL The progression is always very cool to document.

Momma Goose,
Tell me about the onion. Is just the skin red, or is the flesh red as well? Hotter or milder? Sounds interesting!

The onion is called Red Defender, if I am remembering correctly. A guy at the Farmer's Market was given some to try but he was not given a name at the time. They are so red they are almost black. A large globe shape and the interior color is very dark. They are so dark inside that I would cut one in half as a marketing tool to increase sales. Harris seeds says they are Long Day onions. I will start them as I do with all my onions, on my birthday, January 29. They should be large enough to transplant by the third week of April. The ones Lonnie brought to the Farmer's Market were the same size as Candy and made a wonderful contrast to them and my Sterlings.
I did really well at the last farmers market yesterday. Sold 21 dozen eggs, 2 gallons of Brussel Sprouts and the last of my storage onions. I also had a nice chat with Leslies' sister in law.

Leslie H , there is a class next week for Value added products. It is being held at the Front Street cooperative extension on Tuesday. Topics are getting your license, preparing and selling your products. I am going because I want to add Bedding Plants to my Spring offerings and because I want to have a pepper roaster at the market next year. New York State has some complicated rules requarding both items and this seems to be the easiest way to get started. Any topics you would like me to ask about?

Hey Linda!

I wish I had thought to have Venita give you a jar of jam. Darnit!

Would love to hear about the meeting in general. I don't really have any questions that I know of. Is there a link somewhere to the class? I doubt I'll think of anything, but if I do, I'll send you a note.

Those onions sound very cool! My uncle makes hardboiled eggs around Easter that he boils with onion skins. They are absolutely gorgeous colors AND the onion flavor just barely makes it into the egg. Phenomenal! I bet these red onions would make those eggs spectacular in looks as well as flavor.

If you have any Brussels Sprouts left, I'll trade you jam for sprouts...

And yes, NYS has odd rules. Basically, as long as you don't make your own vinegar (which pisses me off), pickles or custards, or chocolate candy, you just need to have a guy come and make sure you have a kitchen. If you use well water, you have to have the water tested. It's no charge and the certification is for life. NYS Ag and Market
