Post Franklin Conservation District to host grazing twilight meeting

Local farmers are invited to learn about rotational grazing for grass-fed beef at a Twilight Meeting sponsored by the Franklin Conservation District on Wednesday, July 29, 6:00 pm at Wheel-View Farm, 212 Reynolds Road in Shelburne, Massachusetts.

Owners John and Carolyn Wheeler, who produce USDA-certified natural grass-fed beef and breeding stock, will discuss their experiences with rotational grazing. Rotational grazing is the practice of dividing pasture into smaller areas, then moving the animals from one area to the next to allow grazed plants time to recover and become re-established.

In addition, Rita Thibodeau, District Conservationist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Greenfield, will speak about federal conservation programs through which NRCS provides farmers with technical and financial assistance to address natural resource concerns.

Participants will be able to view cattle in the field as they work through the Wheeler’s carefully planned grazing rotation. There will be time for questions and answers. Refreshments will be served.

Wheel-View Farm, which has been in Carolyn Wheeler's family since 1896, sells beef products from their primarily Belted Galloway herd at a variety of local stores and restaurants.
