Default Heritage Breed Turkeys

Does anyone raise a heritage turkey breed? If so, what breed(s) do you have and where did you order them from? And were you happy with their health and quality of service from the hatchery? Thanks for your thoughts!

I've been breeding so-called heritage breed turkeys for years, for enjoyment, exhibition, and to eat the culls. I like Narragansetts for their historical ties to New England, Jersey Buffs for their rarity, Bourbon Reds for their flavor and unusual color and pattern, Slates for their color as well, and for their temperament. Nothing looks nicer in full display than a Royal Palm tom.

I don't usually deal with hatcheries, but over the years, I've placed an occasional order with either Privett, Ideal or Cackle, and I've been pleased with all three. Two years ago I placed an order with McMurray for Narragansetts, and they sent all Bronze.

I have a few Narragansetts and like them . The hens are very gentle and good setters.

Maybe we can put a sticky with hatcheries ?

Most so-called heritage breed turkey hens are good setters. Hatcheries aren't all that difficult to find.

Default Turkey Breeders

Another great place to find heritage breed turkeys is Porter's Heritage.
I don't have the exact website by since my hubby found them online through google, it should be too hard lol

We haven't recieved ours yet but we ordered them already for May delivery!

BTW, we have two Royal Palms that we hatched out from eggs purchased from a youngin' involved with the 4-H program. That is always another way if you have someone local you can purchase eggs from.
I have to admit, they are the most skiddish birds I have ever owned.

I just sold 7 Royal Palms of show quality. They were evil terrorist turkeys that took great delight in trying to kill my chickens. I bought them from a private breeder. Never Again!!! My geese are mellow compaired to them but they were beautiful.
A poultry sticky might be nice. I am looking for some rare breed chickens, although , hubby and I are still debating which breed we will be getting.
