Smile old sawdust for mulch

I need to find a supply of old sawdust or new (that I can age) for my blueberries. I am in Herkimer County NY. I need several 100 yard loads. If anyone knows of a supply, let me know.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave - I don't know of anyone up in Herkimer Co., but try talking to a tree service. They may know of smaller lumber mills that don't have pressure treated stuff around.

Also - the tree service I've spoken with will drop off woodchips whenever I ask. Some of the stuff is chunky, but most of it is practically dirt within a year. They also have a huge pile at their site, so that could be an option for you.

Good luck. Let me know how you make out.

HI LeslieH,
Thanks for the info. I have had a tree service drop off chippings, but the quanity is to low for what I need. I found a guy in Skaneateles, through the Farm Bureau paper. His name is Mike McGowan, Heritage Stables 315-729-1499, He has horse stable shavings $400.00 100yds or ground pallets (no nails)$1000.00 100 yds. The pallet material spreads very nice with my Millcreek row mulcher. The horse shavings spreads nice, but not as even. I have 40 1000ft rows of berries and it takes alot of material and time. But it has to be done in order to keep the weeds down and the moisture in.

Thanks again,

Dave Schreck

Hey Dave!
Glad you found someone who can help. I hadn't thought of the horse shavings way. If you need more, I may have a guy you can connect with from down this way. That large of an order would make it worth it to him to haul it.
Let me know if you need more.
Leslie
