Default Planting 2010 Veggies

This week I started the first 6 trays of seeds for the 2010 season. Two trays each of tomatoes, scallions and shallots. The tomatoes are a long shot but we are in an el nino year and that usually means an early Spring. I sure hope so. Am I the only fool wjo has begun planting for the green house? Also, I am trying to keep better records. I found a nifty web site to look at farm manuals. Check out www.roxburyfarm.com and click on the manual button . Very interesting.
I am taking my first GAP class for certification in a few weeks. I am signed up for the High Tunnel, agricultural irrigation and the transition to organic programs at Farm Services. Busy Busy Busy.

Thanks for the update. Looks like a great start. You're definitely gearing up for a busy spring

The tomatoes are beautiful. They have been transplanted up and are almost a foot tall, very stocky and green. I have added two more trays of tomatoes and 2 trays peppers. Eggplant and more peppers will be added to the mix soon. My new cat, Gabby, helped me transplant my shallots yesterday she jumped up onto the table and knocked a flat upside down. She was very sorry , and gave me lots of cat hugs the rest of the day.

LOL - you're not. My SIL is already transplanting impatiens - I don't know how many hundreds she was doing Sunday, but that means she started them awhile ago.

I'm trying a white tomato this year. Am hoping it doesn't contain the protein my sister is allergic to AND that it tastes enough like a tomato for it to be worth it to her.

I haven't started any of my stuff yet, but only because I haven't had the time! Trying to get the house remodeled for Mom coming home. So, things may be a few weeks behind, but that's just the way it is.

Let's hope it's a drier year.

I have 39 trays of seedlings in the dining room now. I plan on moving the brassicas and swiss chard outside tomorrow. I am putting them in one of my old cold frames inside of a greenhouse. It supposed to be very cold this weekend and we may get snow here by morning. But I need the room for my peppers and eggplant under the grow lights. I only have 12 grow lights.

If you have any bubble wrap, add it to the cold frames as insulation. It should be more than sufficient for the temps we're getting.

More work and electricity is mini Xmas tree lights. But they'll keep it plenty toasty for them.

Good luck!
