I was supposed to go to the opening day at the Farmer's Market this morning but I stayed home instead. All I have is spinach, radishes, garlic, scapes and spring onions. Oh of course eggs. Not really worth a 30 minute drive. If we had a day or two of sunshine I might be able to add peas and summer squash but its still drizzly and cool this morning. This is not good! National Weather Services says we could get another inch to inch in a half of rain tomorrow.

Looks like some clearing around here maybe Saturday night into Sunday... we could all use some sunshine! Even 3-4 days of sun would make a world of difference.

In the last 24 hours we have had 1 7/8 inch of rain . We are supposed to have up to 1 more inch tonight 1/4 inch for Sunday. The creek that borders our Market garden on two sides is still running below the rip rap we had installed in 2006 but it is boiling and ugly. As long as the beaver dams upstream hold, we will probably be ok. I am going to contact the DEC to see if they can do something about all the beaverdams to protect us people living downstream.
I went to our main Farmer's Market today. My favorite customer was there and was the first sale of the year. I hope she is good luck for the season. I sold out of everything but eggs. The radishes and spring onions were a big hit. I sold a huge grocery bag of garlic scapes. If the garlic scapes continue to sell like they did in the rain today, they should pay for all the seed garlic I planted in the first place I have enough scapes left to take to the next three markets. I am out of spinach now until fall.
On Tuesday's Market I should have onions, garlic scapes, snow peas, Swiss chard, radishes and of course plenty of eggs. I may be the only one with eggs on Tuesday so I should do better. By the weekend there may be summer squash too. I am off to a very slow start this year. Last year I made 8 times more money the first day than I did today. We need some heat and sunshine to make this a good season.

yes we need heat and sunshine..... I have many flowers on my first hills of summer and zucchinni squash, I hope I have them for market on friday. One more picking of spinach on the first planting. I have 2 more plantings that are a few days away..... time to thin the beets, so I will have beet greens. Roman and head lettuce will be ready soon.... plenty of leaf lettuce.... Thanks to the rain I will need to spray the corn, I have signs of army worms, not much damage, but they are here !!! also starting to see a few potatoe beetles, first batch of pototoes are in flower, lady bug population on the potatoes is unbelievable, keep up the good work ladies...... As for the rain last night we didn't get drowned, I haven't checked my gauge yet but I'm not seeing any puddles

We managed to avoid anything but a sprinkle until yesterday afternoon, then we got pounded for about an hour. Not sure total, but rain gauge looked to be a little under an inch. Hoping for some clear skies this week, for sure. Scattered showers are fine, as long as there's plenty of sun in between!

With all the moisture and cooler weather we have been having, it is sure to get mold and other diseases started in our plants. What kinds of protection do you give your plants? Dixondale plant company recommends seacide for their onions. I have bravo for tomatoes and curcurbits. I try to never use them unless it is necessary. Seems like this will be the year.

what the #$%^&*, this weather is ridiculous... We had 1 hour or more of constant down pour, everything was under water............ Will be checking the results shortly this am.... unbelieveable, we had a few seconds of hail also don't no if there was any hail damage.....
sprayed pumpkins for cuccumber beetles yesterday, they were loaded, hope the spary had some results it was on for 4 hours before the rain....
Not sure what my next move will be, planting schedule is off by 13 days.
Corn that should have been ready by now is only about half way there.
Melon crop appears to be about wiped out !!! 2nd planting of summer and zucchinni is at about 20%..... my main growing area sits at 815 ' and has a hillside to the westside @ 845' and a south to north slop on the east side from 831' needless to say im farming an upland valley.
I have 12 -16 inches of beautiful (composted) soil ontop of glacial till - no gravel in between and only about 4 inches of subsoil. poor drainage, I may need to tile ????
